Overview
Antidote & Rubber Republic operates the Community Project Finder tool embedded on this website. This policy explains what personal data is collected when you use the tool, why we collect it, how it is used, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
What data we collect
When you use the Community Project Finder, you enter a UK postcode to search for nearby community projects. Your postcode is the primary personal data we collect.
If you vote on or flag a project, we also collect your IP address, but only in a masked and hashed form — this cannot be used to identify you or your exact location, and is used solely to stop the same visitor voting or flagging the same project repeatedly.
If you submit feedback or a project for inclusion in the tool, we also collect the contact details (such as an email address) you provide, so we can reply to you or so others can get in touch about the project you've submitted.
We do not collect your name, and we do not use cookies or any form of tracking or analytics.
How your postcode is used
Your postcode is used for the following purposes:
To find relevant results. Your postcode is sent to Anthropic's API, which powers the project search. Anthropic processes the postcode to identify community-led projects near your location.
To improve future results. If new qualifying projects are discovered during your search, they may be added to our database of projects, along with their own location — not your personal search postcode. This allows us to serve faster, more relevant results to future users searching nearby areas.
To calculate distance. Your postcode is compared against known project locations to filter results within your chosen search radius.
To understand usage. We keep a record of the general area searched (the first part of your postcode only, e.g. "BS1" rather than your full postcode) for up to 400 days, so we can see which parts of the UK use the tool. This is not linked to your IP address or any other identifying information.
Third parties
Anthropic processes your postcode as part of the search query sent to their API, and acts as a data processor on our behalf. Their privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
We also use postcodes.io, a UK postcode lookup service, to convert your postcode into map coordinates.
Our website and database are hosted by Replit, who process and store data on our behalf as part of providing that hosting.
We do not share your data with any advertisers or analytics platforms.
Data retention
Project locations: postcodes belonging to the community projects themselves (not your search postcode) are retained indefinitely as project reference data, to support ongoing search results for all users.
Search area logs: the general area you searched (outcode only, e.g. "BS1") is retained for up to 400 days.
Voting and flagging: a masked, hashed record of your IP address is kept for up to 400 days, solely to prevent repeat voting or flagging.
Feedback and submissions: contact details you provide are kept for up to 400 days after your query or submission has been resolved.
We do not maintain any log linking a specific person to a specific search.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
Access the personal data we hold about you
Erasure — request that your data (including your IP record or contact details) be removed from our database
Object to the way we process your data
Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled

Cookies and tracking
The Community Project Finder does not use cookies or any form of tracking or analytics.
